Recycling 2,500 metric tons of slightly radioactive lead |
|
|||||
Why not recycle the lead found in our establishments and use it again in a closed loop? In 2003, COGEMA* Marcoule answered this question by creating a process for recycling the lead that remained after clean-up and dismantling of the UP1 treatment plant. Lead parts - slightly radioactive radiological shielding - are first decontaminated by melting, in line with a specially created product quality standard, and then shaped into ingots. The ingots are finally converted into new biological shielding for use on the site. * Now AREVA NC |
