Recycling 2,500 metric tons of slightly radioactive lead |
|
|||||
Partnership with a lead specialist In late 2000, COGEMA* Marcoule launched a procedure to create a recycling process. Approval was finally granted by the competent authorities in May 2003, two and a half years later. In line with the approval granted, the establishment sends its decontaminated ingots to a company named D'HUART, based in Marseille (France). This company specialises in lead recycling and shaping. The first three shields made from recycled lead were delivered to Marcoule (France) in October 2003. Needs for 2004 are estimated around 200 metric tons to be recycled. COGEMA* La Hague, EDF and the CEA have all expressed an interest in this technique. * Now AREVA NC |
