Like ice in the sun...

Uranium goes through a series of stages before it is made into fuel. Once it is mined, the ore is broken up, crushed and immersed in an acid bath. This produces a concentrated product known as "yellow cake", which has an average uranium content of 750 kg per ton.

To preserve the environment, spent fuel is recycled, conserving 3,000 tons of natural uranium every year, almost 10% of world demand.
