Reducing wastes volumes...

Hulls and end-fittings are metallic structural components of fuel assemblies. When spent fuel is reprocessed, these components are first separated from the recyclable nuclear materials (uranium and plutonium) and the fission products in the fuel.

The separated hulls and end-fittings are compacted in a recently commissioned facility, reducing the waste to one-fifth of their original volume.
