Successful environmental management in the heart of the desert

SOMAIR and COMINAK, mining subsidiaries of COGEMA*, are the first companies to be ISO 14001 certified in Niger. The certification shows that they have put in place an environmental management system comparable to those in use by major certified corporations around the world.

These two subsidiaries in Niger join a very small group of West African companies to receive such certification in western Africa. By the end of 2003, COGEMA* had received 15 ISO 14001 certifications covering 23 sites of environmental importance.
