Waste canister after compaction

Reducing the volume of stored waste by an average factor of 5

As part of its sustainable development and constant progress approach, COGEMA* has designed, built and started up a facility (called ACC) at the La Hague plant for compacting hulls, end-pieces and technological waste originating from the reprocessing of used fuel.

This facility is part of the group's general policy to reduce the volume of waste. The ACC facility contributes to the strategy developed for storing long-lived high and intermediate-level radioactive waste in universal canisters in order to optimize the total fuel cycle back end costs.
