Inspection of control rod mechanisms - Jeumont Plant (France)

Reliability guaranteed

A control rod drive mechanism is a magnetic jack-type mechanism installed on the reactor vessel head.

It performs three critical functions:
- withdrawing or inserting the control rods into the reactor core to control reactor power,
- maintaining the control rods in operating position,
- dropping them immediately into the core in the event of emergency shutdown.

Already 5,000 control rod drive mechanisms have been delivered throughout the world either as original equipment for new reactors systems, or as spare parts for reactor vessel head replacements.
