Interim storage facility for radioactive waste and used fuel - The Netherlands

HABOG, a "two-in-one" interim storage facility.

This 2-in-1 facility is a world first: it is used to store both nuclear used fuel and radioactive waste. The facility was designed and built by SGN, a COGEMA* subsidiary, and began operation in November 2003. At this time, the first cask of fuel elements was stored in a well which was then sealed in the presence of EURATOM and the Dutch authorities.
