Water on Mars…

The titanium-encapsulated germanium detector on board NASA's Mars Odyssey space probe has detected tons of frozen water less than one meter below the surface, in the south pole of Mars.

The innovative French technology, lightweight and highly accurate detector, developed by a COGEMA* subsidiary, Canberra Eurisys, uses ultra-pure germanium crystals encapsulated with a vacuum process.
