Used fuel storage pool - COGEMA plant, La Hague (France)




A long period of pool storage...

Before recovering different materials contained in used fuel, the fuel assemblies are kept in pools for 5 to 8 years, located at COGEMA* La Hague plant. This allows used fuel to cool before reprocessing operations begin.

Since its startup, the COGEMA* La Hague plant has treated 19,400 metric tons of used fuel. Recycling recoverable materials has thus helped to save the equivalent of 400 million metric tons of oil.
