The indispensable conversion stage…

Between the mine and the enrichment plant, uranium goes through a process that converts it into uranium tetrafluoride (UF4) and then to uranium hexafluoride (UF6) by combining it with pure fluorine. Conversion gives the uranium concentrates the necessary purity to be made into nuclear fuel.

COMURHEX, COGEMA's* subsidiary, is known worldwide for its uranium conversion capabilities. It has also applied its expertise to developing and producing numerous fluorinated compounds on an industrial level.
