Between now and the end of the century, the Earth is expected to warm at a rate not seen since Homo sapiens first appeared on the scene. The average atmospheric temperature by 2100 could be five degrees warmer than it is today. That is the same gap that separates us from the last ice age 20,000 years ago, when most of Europe was blanketed by an ice cap several hundred meters thick.

Will regions in France soon be submerged by the ocean? Will Europe be battered by tropical cyclones? Humankind still has time to limit the fallout from climate change, provided that it acts very quickly.
